MITOYA HYRAX is a sturdy mini photo tripod designed for mobile photo and video work. It works with cameras, action cameras and smartphones with a suitable holder. Therefore, it fits both desk setups and mobile content creation.
HYRAX meets the needs of users who do not always work with a full-size tripod. Today, many photos and videos are created in small studios, workshops, shops and outdoor locations. In such conditions, equipment should be quick to set up, easy to carry and simple to adjust.
A mini photo tripod for different work setups
MITOYA HYRAX offers height adjustment from 32 to 55 cm. As a result, it works well for product photos, desk recordings, vlogs and tutorials. It can also support short video formats for social media.
However, it is not a replacement for a tall studio tripod. Its role is different. HYRAX works as a stable and compact support point. It is useful wherever a large tripod takes up too much space.
You can place it on a desk, floor, bench, wall or low platform. Therefore, it works well in limited spaces. It is also useful when the working area changes often.
Stable construction for cameras, action cameras and smartphones
The tripod is made of aluminium and weighs 950 g. Therefore, it is not an ultra-light tabletop tripod. At the same time, this weight helps provide firmer support for the equipment.
The load capacity of up to 5 kg allows users to work with more than a smartphone. HYRAX can support a mirrorless camera, a DSLR with a standard lens or a small video camera.
Each leg can be adjusted independently. As a result, the tripod is easier to set up on less even surfaces. This can be useful outdoors, on stairs, on stone or on an irregular tabletop.
Rubber feet improve grip. In addition, the counterweight hook allows the tripod to be weighted down. This helps when the setup or location needs extra stability.
Low-angle shots, details and macro work
One of the key features of HYRAX is low-angle work. When the legs are spread almost flat, the minimum working height is 21.5 cm.
This solution is useful for photographing details, products, jewellery, watches, cosmetics, food and plants. Therefore, the tripod can support many types of photo and video work.
The centre column can be removed and mounted upside down. As a result, the camera can get even closer to the ground. This is helpful for macro shots and creative product frames.
However, the centre column does not tilt sideways. For classic flat lay shots from above, a tripod with an arm or boom will be more convenient.
Ball head and Arca Swiss standard
MITOYA HYRAX is equipped with a ball head and an Arca Swiss quick-release plate. This is practical for users who often remove the camera from the tripod. It also helps when they change the setup during one session.
The head allows free camera tilting and 360° panoramic rotation. In addition, two spirit levels help keep the frame straight. The angle scale also supports repeatable work.
This matters in product photography and instructional materials. It is also useful in short recordings where the user needs to return to a similar camera position.
The quick-release plate includes a 1/4” screw and non-slip pads. Moreover, the whole head can be unscrewed. This reveals a 3/8” thread.
Compact format in the MITOYA range
When folded, the tripod is only 21 cm long. A drawstring case is included in the set. As a result, transport and storage are easier.
This compact size is important for users who work on the move. It also helps when building a small photo and video setup for everyday tasks.
HYRAX is a practical addition to the MITOYA range of accessories for cameras, smartphones and action cameras. When used with a smartphone, it requires a separate phone holder. With action cameras, compatibility depends on the housing or adapter used.
Combined with a compact LED light, a microphone or a phone cage, the tripod can become part of a simple setup. It can support recordings, product photos, live streams and social media content.
